Time for a change in Birdland, I do believe. The O's starters, with the exception of Jeremy Guthrie, cannot go deep in to ballgames. This weekend in Detroit Chris Waters, Dennis Sarfate and Garrett Olson combined for 11 innings. Completely unacceptable.
The bullpen is clearly worn down as the team ERA has been inching up for a couple months now to be 13th in the American League. There are only so many bullets in the arms of the guys in the 'pen and they are being used up on a frequent basis by the inadequate starting rotation.
I think the Orioles need to bring up pitching prospect Bradley Bergesen now the 23-year-old Hayden Penn is on the disabled list with a sore shoulder. Bergesen is on the same rotation day as today's starter Garrett Olson, so what's the problem. Throw him out there against the Yankees. The game will be a home game and the Yankees aren't the Yankees of the 1990s. Let's see what these kids have. There can't be any harm done just to get a look. Can there?
