I had the opportunity to run through some questions with Rays highly-touted prospect David Price. Price is currently with the Montgomery Biscuits in his rookie season and hopes to make it up to the big leagues to help with the race to the playoffs. I would like to publicly thank David for doing this interview and wish him wonderful success throughout the rest of the season.1. Coming into the season, you made it clear that your goal was to make it to the majors as soon as you were ready. Do you feel like you are ready to compete at that level?
DP: yes I do feel like playing at Vanderbilt and in the SEC has prepared me very well to compete in the next level
2. What do you think are your chances of making it to the big leagues this season? If so, do you think you may be used in a late-season bullpen addition?
DP: I would have to think my chances of getting up there this year is pretty good. Yes i would think in the bullpen simply because our starting pitching has been phenomenal
3. You were injured during spring training workouts and forced to miss a little bit of time in spring training. How difficult was it to sit out after you finally made it to the professional level?
DP: That was tough. Took a lot of patience to just sit there and not be able to do anything for a couple weeks.
4. Those that have followed your career would know that you are a fiery competitor that never holds anything back. As you have worked your way through the minors, which is supposed to be a learning experience, is winning games still your primary goal? Or do your coaches give you alternative goals for different starts to work on specific areas of your game?
DP: Winning is always the goal. Throughout the week before starts they will throw some stuff at me and tell me if i like it then run with it if not then fine.
5. Do you follow the Rays closely throughout your season or do you just stay focused on your own game?
6. Have you been working on any new pitches or mechanical changes during your time in the minors?
DP: No new pitches or mechanical changes.
7. Anyone that has seen your pickoff move knows that you flirt with the line of balking comparable to Andy Pettitte. How much time do you put into working on that move and how often are you called for a balk?
DP: I was called for a balk a couple times my freshmen year but other than that i haven't been called for one. I haven't been working on that as much here recently but in college we worked on it daily.
8. What has been the most exciting experience for you so far throughout your first season?
DP: Playing in front of the loyal Vandy fans in West Tennessee.
9. Spending time with the club's pitching staff during spring training must've been very valuable for a rookie. Were there any specific people on the team that gave you constructive feedback?
DP: Its not a sprint its a marathon
10. Now that we are over halfway through the season, what are your goals for the remainder of your season and also the off-season?
DP: Win the World Series
